The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is the Middle East’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together with authors from across the world to promote education, debate and above all else, love of reading and writing.

The 2015 Festival will be held March 3-7, 2015 at The Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and in partnership with Emirates and the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage.

This year, for the first time, Institut français proudly supports 4 francophone graphic novellists: Nicolas Wild, Zeina Abichared, Tian and Clément Baloup.

Go and register on the festival’s website for the “French Strand” cessions to meet the acclaimed French Graphic novelist Nicolas Wild (Kabul Disco), the Lebanese writer Zeina Abirached, the Cambodian writer Tian and the French cartoonist Clément Baloup.

French author and illustrator Nicolas Wild has created several graphic novels, including Ainsi se tut Zarathoustra and Kabul Disco, and has been involved in creative projects in the region such as residencies with Institut français and Dubai Culture in 2013/14 and participation at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair and Middle East Film and Comic Con Festival in 2014.

Zeina Abirached is a Lebanese writer and artist whose childhood in war-torn Beirut inspired her graphic novels. Her latest title is Beyrouth Catharsis (Beirut Catharthis)).

Born in Cambodia 3 days after the Khmer Rouge seized power, Tian uses his graphic novel series L’année du lièvre (The Year of the Hare) to tell the story of his family living under this bloody regime.

French cartoonist and illustrator Clément Baloup uses his South-East Asian heritage to inspire his graphic novels and comics.  He is known for his award-winning series Mémoires de Viet Kieu (Memoirs of Vietnamese Diaspora).
