Don’t breathe a word!? mime show by Laurent Decol

With Louvre Abu Dhabi to open in 2016 and Expo Dubai 2020, the UAE tends to be a land where cultures and civilizations meet for a better understanding. That is the reason why in a country where more than 130 nationalities live together, the cultural department of the French Embassy/Institut français in the UAE presents this fall a show on the art of silence that questions the notion of universalism.

Indeed, as part of its continuous effort of promoting art in its various forms, Institut français in the UAE is proud to introduce Laurent Decol, the best contemporary French mime artist, for the first time ever in Abu Dhabi to perform his show Don’t breathe a word!

The show was created at the International Festival of Skopje in Macedonia. Recently, it has been presented in France in several drama schools and national stages. It has also been performed in New Zealand, in many African countries and in India. The show consists of a succession of acts, linked together, for about an hour and fifteen minutes. The character is arrogant, full of himself and self-confident, therefore ridiculous, pathetic and often pitiful… Obviously, his actions often cause laughter.

Presented in partnership with the Alliance française Abu Dhabi and The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi, this event marks the desire of Institut francais to reveal in the UAE the French tradition of this unique performing art, following the performance of Montreux Comedy Club mime artists during “March is francophone” festival in 2014 and a few weeks after The Mummenschanz shows in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain this summer.
