The Emirati-French Cultural Programme – In dialogue with the Louvre Abu Dhabi
A joint initiative of the governments of the UAE and France, the Emirati-French Cultural Programme – In dialogue with the Louvre Abu Dhabi is part of a creative momentum dedicated to the upcoming opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. This museum of international reach, is a major cultural project that will mark the beginning of this century. It is the pedestal on which this artistic programme rests, and constitutes its main source of inspiration.
First of its kind, this innovative project is presented in Abu Dhabi, as well as in the heart of the desert, in Al Ain, cradle of the Emirati nation. It is based on the excellency of the French and Emirati cultural traditions. Through a range of events, it illustrates the capacity of creation and of innovation of the artists from both countries, and aims at strengthening their cultural cooperation. The programme brings together classical and contemporary music, theater, equestrian choreography, visual arts and pyrotechnic creation – five major acts held high by the greatest French and Emirati institutions and artists.
Universal Expressions, our inaugural concert, set the pace one year ago with, a world premiere made of two compositions, combining the excellence of the musical creation of both our countries.
At the end of 2016, the project Co-Lab: contemporary art and savoir faire was presented on the occasion of Abu Dhabi Art. This collaborative project, a true workshop of competences, offers to four artists living in the United Arab Emirates the opportunity to live a unique experience amongst four French historical manufacturers. Their original artworks will be showcased at the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
After the last theatrical training sessions of the Trance-forms programme, in Abu Dhabi and in Paris at the National Superior Conservatory of Dramatic Art, the year 2017 also saw the birth of I Am My Language – Je suis ma langue, achieved at the end of February at Manarat Al Saadiyat. The programme has brought on stage fourteen young and talented comedians based in the United Arab Emirates, who are now the heart of a National Theater Troupe.
For the first time in the Gulf, horse-riding men and their thirty horses from the National Equestrian Academy of Versailles gave an exceptional show, choreographed by Bartabas, within the walls of the Jahili Fort in Al Ain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi will be the ultimate step and highlight of this programme.
