This year, in celebration of the International Day of Arabic Language, the Institut Français in the United Arab Emirates, Arabic Language Center, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, and the Institut du Monde Arabe are taking you on an artistic journey in an evening full of sounds and poetic visuals. The event will take place at Louvre Abu Dhabi on the 18th of December 2021 at 7pm under the dome of the museum around the Ottoman fountain.

The event will feature the following artists : Amal Alsahlawi, Sherine Tohamy, Rohan Houssein, Kaspar Ravel and students from the Department of French studies at Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, Aysha Alblooshi, Alyazia Alharmoodi, El Hadji Abdou Aziz Diop and Malick Kouassi Traoré, Mariam Alhosani, Aisha Alaleeli, Shahd Talaat.

During this evening, the artists of this Poetry Night will be celebrating languages and cultures through music, rap, slam, poetry, and visual arts. Poetry is both a contemporary and traditional art, characterized by its timelessness. Born as an oral art, poetry lies in the music of the words: its power being its instant effect, experienced here and now, with a completely immersed audience. We have chosen to mix poetry, music, and visual arts to offer the public an immersive performance with the theme of travel, in a journey around the world and around cultures, in order to celebrate the histories of cultural connection. And what better place than the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the mesmerizing universal museum, for this aesthetic journey?

“Poetry Night” is an annual event organized by the Institut du Monde Arabe in France and in 15 Arab countries every year since 2016. It is an emblematic night that promotes dialogue, tolerance and celebrates the beauty of languages.

Following the signing of the International Certificate for Arabic Language Proficiency (CIMA) partnership, between the Arabic Language Center in Abu Dhabi and the Institut du Monde Arabe on the 15th of November 2021, this event will be a new opportunity to showcase the cultural links between France and the Arab world and to celebrate their creativity, and linguistic richness.
