Ahmed, 18 years old, French of Algerian origin, grew up in the Parisian suburbs. On the benches of the university, he meets Farah, a young Tunisian full of energy freshly arrived in Paris. While discovering a body of sensual and erotic Arabic literature that he did not know existed, Ahmed falls in love with her and although literally overwhelmed by desire, he will try to resist it. Leyla Bouzid succeeds through a simple and intelligent story to treat all the complexity of the turbulence of bodies and minds. A portrait of the appetites of youth that resonates with great acuity in its dimension of mirroring the self-censored aspirations of the culture of the peripheries where the question of sexuality in particular is nourished by the unspoken. Carried by a duo of protagonists very well cast because full of character, the film conceals, under its classic appearance of initiatory itinerary, a great originality and several layers of social reading, at the intersection between instinct and reflection, repression and liberation.
