Children in Primary School: DELF Prim

Children between the ages of 6 and 11 can take the DELF Prim.

The DELF Prim is for all primary school children who are beginning to learn French; they are between 6 years old (Year 2 /1st Grade) and 11 years old (Year 6/5th Grade). The levels concerned are the first ones of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1.1, A1.2, A2. Each level is validated by a DELF, an official diploma issued by the French Ministry of Education – it is the same DELF that can also be obtained when you are older (DELF Junior, DELF general public). It is not necessary to hold the DELF A1 to take the DELF A2.

 

This Diploma is recognized throughout the world and is valid for life.

Adolescents in Secondary Education

From the age of 17, students can also take the DELF general public and the DALF C1 or C2 if their level of French is above B2.

The DELF Junior is designed for teenagers, with themes adapted to the personal and educational context of teenagers.

 

Audience: Teenagers from 11-12 to 18 years old, from middle school to high school.

Levels Assessed:   A1, A2, B1, B2

 The DELF Junior gives the right to obtain a diploma identical to the DELF version for the general public (adults).

TCF general public

As part of the Prior Admission Application (PAA)

The TCF for the general public, as part of the Prior Admission Application (PAA), allows students to enroll in the first year of a bachelor’s degree (L1) or in a school of architecture in France. Holders of DELF B2, DALF or a TEF with a sufficient level do not have to take this test.

 

The following four tests must be evaluated:

*     Oral comprehension

*     Mastery of the language structures

*     Written comprehension

*     Written expression

 

The TCF test results in a certificate, valid for 2 years, indicating a level of competence in French (ranging from “A1 not achieved” to “C2”) for each of the tests taken.

TCF for the General Public or TEF to

To evaluate your level of French for personal, professional and academic reasons

The TCF for the general public allows you to evaluate your level of French for personal, professional and academic reasons (in order to enroll in a university in L2, L3, M1 or M2).

It is necessarily composed of the following tests:

*     Oral comprehension;

*     Mastery of the language structures;

*     Written comprehension;

…to which the following supplementary tests may be added according to needs:

*     Written expression;

*     Oral expression.

 

The TCF exam results in a certificate, valid for 2 years, indicating the level for each test.

TCF (French nationality) or TEF (French or Swiss naturalization)

The TCF for access to French nationality is intended for any foreigner over 16 years of age wishing to acquire French nationality by naturalization, reinstatement or declaration of nationality because of their marriage to a French spouse. The aim is to achieve a B1 level in written and oral French.

It is necessarily composed of the following four tests:

*     Oral comprehension;

*     Written comprehension;

*     Written expression;

*     Oral expression.

The TEF naturalisation is designed to validate a B1 level in written and oral expression as part of the naturalization process with the French/Swiss government.

It is necessarily composed of the following four tests:

TCF Canada / TEF Canada

The TCF for Canada is intended for anyone of 16 years of age or older, regardless of nationality or mother tongue, who needs to certify his or her level of French in order to immigrate to Canada for economic reasons or to obtain Canadian citizenship and who, therefore, must submit a file to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The following 4 tests must be taken:

–      Oral comprehension: 35 minutes, 39 questions;

–      Written comprehension: 60 minutes, 39 questions;

–      Written expression: 60 minutes, 3 exercises;

–      Individual oral expression: 12 minutes (including 2 minutes of preparation), 3 exercises.

TEF Canada

The TEF Canada is a test that certifies French language skills for immigration and citizenship applications in Canada.

In the context of an immigration application to Canada, the following 4 tests must be taken on the same day:

*     Oral comprehension: 40 min – 60 questions ;

*     Written comprehension: 60 min – 50 questions;

*     Oral Expression: 15 min – 2 topics to be covered;

*     Written expression: 60 minutes – 2 topics

In the context of an application for Canadian citizenship, the following 2 tests must be taken on the same day:

*     Oral Comprehension: 40 min – 60 questions;

*     Oral Expression: 15 min – 2 topics

TCF Quebec / TEFAQ to emigrate to Québec

The TCF for Quebec is intended for any person 16 years of age or older, regardless of nationality or mother tongue, who needs to certify his or her level of French as part of a permanent immigration procedure to Quebec and who, as a result, must submit an immigration file with the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration) (MIFI) of Quebec.

The TCF Quebec is composed of 4 modular tests that evaluate competencies in French as a general language. Each candidate may choose to take 1, 2, 3 or 4 tests from among the following:

*     Oral comprehension: Group test: 25 minutes, 29 questions;

*     Written comprehension: Group test: 45 minutes, 29 questions;

*     Written expression: Group test: 60 minutes, 3 exercises;

*     Individual oral expression: 12 minutes (including 2 minutes of preparation), 3 exercises.

TEF Québec (TEFAQ)

The TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) is a test that allows you to attest your French language skills to the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (Ministère de l’Immigration de la Francisation et de l’Intégration) (MIFI) of Quebec as part of the immigration process.

The TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) consists of 4 modular tests:

–      Oral Comprehension: 40 min – 60 questions

–      Oral Expression: 15 min – 2 topics

–      Written comprehension: 60 min – 50 questions

–      Written expression: 60 min – 2 subjects to process

The TEF exam results in a certificate, valid for 2 years, indicating a level of competence in French (from “<A1” to “C2”) for each of the tests taken.

The TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) allows you to earn points for your immigration file in Quebec starting from level B2.

The PFD

The PFD (Professional French Diplomas) of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris, Ile de France, allow you to show your skills in working in French in the fields of business, international relations, tourism/hospitality/restaurants and health.

These diplomas are recognized and offered in the 123 management universities and schools around the world such as Duke University, Durham, MGIMO, Moscow, Bocconi University, Milan, HEC, Paris, as well as in the 32 schools of the CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education) and various ministries in Europe and in France.

 

The Diplomas in Professional French are also recognized by the French Ministry of the Interior to validate your level of French for a residence permit or naturalization application to the French State.

The Diploma of French for International Relations was designed in partnership with the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), which recognizes and prescribes it in various international programs.

The tests are taken online and followed by an oral interview.

They are composed of two parts:

  1. Understanding and processing information (between 45 min and 2h depending on the level)

–      Processing written information

–      Processing oral information

–      Interacting in writing

 

  1. Interacting orally (between 5 and 15 min depending on the level with preparation time)

–      Two situational activities

The proposed levels go from level A1 to level C1 of the CECRL according to the fields.

The diplomas are valid for life.
